HPWWI Records 100% Success in Maiden WorldSkills Regional Competition
In a landmark achievement for skill development in India, the Hettich Poddar Woodworking Institute (HPWWI) has reported a flawless performance in its first-ever WorldSkills preparation initiative. All six of its candidates secured medals at the Regional competition, resulting in an impressive 100% success rate. This accomplishment underscores HPWWI's commitment to nurturing talent in woodworking trades and contributing to India's skilled workforce.
From Camp to Competition: A Journey of Excellence
The journey began on September 11, 2025, with the launch of HPWWI's WorldSkills preparation camp, designed to identify and train high-potential individuals in woodworking. Initially, sixteen candidates were shortlisted across three key skill categories: Joinery, Cabinet Making, and Carpentry. These participants underwent intensive, industry-aligned training to hone their abilities.
After rigorous District and State-level competitions, six candidates advanced to the Regional stage, emerging from a highly competitive pool of over 700 participants across the North Zone. This selection process highlighted the exceptional caliber of HPWWI's trainees.
Regional Competition Highlights and Medal Winners
The Regional competition was held in Agra from March 11 to 14, 2026, attracting more than 300 participants. The event was attended by senior dignitaries from the skill development ecosystem, including the Hon'ble Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. Demonstrating remarkable skill and preparation, all six HPWWI participants achieved podium finishes:
- Lucky Kumar (Joinery) - Gold Medal
- Lavkush (Joinery) - Silver Medal
- Shubham Jangra (Joinery) - Bronze Medal
- Ankit Vishwakarma (Cabinet Making) - Gold Medal
- Rahul Jangra (Cabinet Making) - Silver Medal
- Junaid (Carpentry) - Silver Medal
Following this success, five of these candidates have qualified for the National competition, scheduled later this month. They will compete for a chance to represent India at the WorldSkills International stage in Shanghai, further elevating India's profile in global skill competitions.
