Kerala Governor Champions Skill-Based Education for Student Self-Reliance

Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar has issued a powerful call to students across India, urging them to embrace skill-based education as a pathway to self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Speaking at the Annual Conclave and Future Skills Summit 2026, organized by the Fuel Education Group at their Pune campus, Governor Arlekar emphasized that students should move beyond merely seeking employment and instead focus on becoming job creators themselves.

Aligning with Viksit Bharat 2047 and the New Education Policy

In his address as chief guest, Governor Arlekar directly referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious vision of "Viksit Bharat 2047." He highlighted how India's new education policy represents a significant departure from colonial-era thinking, with a renewed focus on strengthening the nation's education and skill ecosystem. "Value-based leadership and collaborative governance are essential to build a strong Indian education and skills framework," the Governor stated. He further connected this to the government's "Skill India" mission, asserting that students must empower themselves through skill-oriented education to stand firmly on their own feet.

Fuel Education Group's Role in Bridging the Aspiration-Employability Gap

The event saw the presence of key dignitaries including Dr. Ketan Deshpande, Founder Chairman of the Fuel Education Group, and COO Mayuri Deshpande. Governor Arlekar took the opportunity to felicitate Dr. Deshpande for his outstanding contributions to nation-building through transformative work in the education sector. The Governor praised Fuel's impactful efforts, noting, "Fuel's work has meaningfully bridged the gap between aspirations and employability for underprivileged and first-generation learners across the country." He added that Fuel is taking a crucial step toward integrating world-class education, skills, and industry, which will significantly strengthen India's future-ready talent ecosystem.

During the summit, important milestones achieved by Fuel under India's Social Stock Exchange framework were officially announced, marking a significant development in their educational initiatives.

Inspirational Messages and Broader Perspectives

Governor Arlekar shared a guiding principle with the students in attendance: "If you live only for yourself, you merely exist; if you live for others, you truly live." This message underscored the importance of community-oriented growth and contribution.

Dr. Ketan Deshpande, in his remarks, echoed the theme of opportunity and skill. "Talent is everywhere, but opportunities are not," he said. Reflecting on Fuel's 20-year journey, Deshpande emphasized that when skill-based education is linked with dignity and employment, underprivileged youth can confidently contribute to India's development narrative.

Government Support and Future Directions

Through a video message, State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil reinforced the government's commitment to providing the right direction for entrepreneurship through skill development under the new education policy. He lauded Fuel's two decades of commendable work in education and youth development, specifically noting their sincere efforts to bridge the gap between education and industry. This has been achieved through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) participation and skill-based training programs that prepare meritorious students for either employment or entrepreneurial ventures.

The program was competently compered by Sanika Nirmal, ensuring a smooth and engaging flow of events throughout the conclave.
