Eastern Uttar Pradesh's First Veterinary College Nears Completion in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur is poised to inaugurate Eastern Uttar Pradesh's premier veterinary college by the end of June, marking a significant advancement in both academic training and comprehensive animal healthcare services. This landmark institution will provide degree and diploma programs in veterinary science while functioning as a dedicated center for animal treatment and medical research.

Project Timeline and Leadership

The foundation stone and bhoomi pujan for the college were ceremoniously performed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on March 3, 2024. Construction commenced swiftly on September 10 of the same year. The college is strategically located at Tal Nador along the bustling Gorakhpur–Varanasi highway.

Academic Affiliation and Infrastructure

Upon becoming operational, the college will be formally affiliated with the prestigious Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go Anusandhan Sansthan in Mathura. The expansive project spans over 80 acres of land and is being developed in three meticulously planned phases.

Construction Progress and Financials

According to PWD Executive Engineer Manish Kumar, approximately 65% of the first phase construction is already complete. The structural framework for the major buildings has been finalized, with remaining work progressing at an accelerated pace. The first phase carries an estimated cost of around Rs 277 crore.

"We are aiming to complete the project by the end of June," Kumar stated confidently, highlighting the rapid advancement.

Phase 1 Facilities and Capacity

The initial phase will feature an impressive array of facilities designed to support a holistic educational and healthcare environment:

  • An academic block comprising ground plus five floors
  • A fully equipped hospital block for animal treatment
  • Comprehensive residential facilities and hostels accommodating 106 male and 106 female students
  • Separate postgraduate hostels
  • An auditorium, guest house, and community centre
  • Specialized facilities for housing animals, feed storage, and veterinary research centres

The campus will pioneer a net-zero energy model, incorporating a solar power plant to ensure sustainability. Initially, the college will admit 100 students into its undergraduate program.

Design Inspiration and Legacy

The architectural and educational design of the college draws inspiration from the concept of Shalihotra, revered in Indian tradition as the father of veterinary science. This thoughtful integration honors historical wisdom while advancing modern veterinary practices.

This development represents a transformative step for Eastern Uttar Pradesh, addressing long-standing gaps in veterinary education and animal healthcare infrastructure. The college is expected to become a regional hub for innovation, treatment, and skilled professional training in the field of veterinary sciences.
