DAVV Implements Major Overhaul of Postgraduate Examination Schedule

Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore has announced a significant revision to its postgraduate examination timetable for the current academic year. In a departure from previous practice, the university has decided not to conduct second and fourth semester examinations simultaneously. This strategic shift is designed to facilitate the timely completion of academic programs, particularly for students in their final year.

New Examination Timeline and Rationale

The revised schedule will see final semester examinations commence from April 1. Subsequently, second semester exams are tentatively planned to begin from May 12 or later, creating a gap of over one month between the two sessions. This marks a substantial change from the traditional approach where both semester exams either started on the same day or within a narrow interval of about a week.

Examination Controller Ashesh Tiwari emphasized the university's new priority. "We have prioritized final semester examinations this time to ensure that postgraduate students complete their courses on schedule. The second semester exams will follow in May. A detailed timetable will be released shortly," Tiwari stated. The primary objective is to help students in conventional postgraduate programs graduate without unnecessary delays.

Scope, Scale, and Examination Integrity Measures

The upcoming examination series will encompass a diverse array of postgraduate courses, including:

  • MA (Master of Arts)
  • MCom (Master of Commerce)
  • MSc (Master of Science)
  • MBA (Master of Business Administration)
  • BEd (Bachelor of Education) fourth semester
  • LLB (Bachelor of Laws) fourth semester

Approximately 31,000 candidates are expected to participate. This cohort includes nearly 16,000 students from traditional postgraduate courses and about 8,000 MBA students.

To uphold the integrity of the examination process and prevent malpractices, DAVV will deploy 50 observers across all examination centers. Each center will be assigned one or a maximum of two observers. A key protocol mandates that question papers will be opened only in the presence of these observers, ensuring strict and transparent monitoring throughout the examination duration.

Persisting Uncertainty for Undergraduate Examinations

While the postgraduate schedule is now clearer, uncertainty continues to surround the undergraduate first-year examinations, which are also slated to begin from May 12. The university has confirmed that the 70:30 marking pattern (70% theory, 30% practical) remains in effect. However, colleges have expressed significant concerns regarding the lack of a defined syllabus for the practical examination component.

With less than two months remaining until the proposed start date, this absence of clarity has generated considerable anxiety among both students and educational institutions, highlighting an area requiring urgent resolution from the university administration.
