Pune Police Arrest Youth for Alleged Board Exam Paper Leak via App Manipulation

In a significant development, the Shivajinagar police in Pune have arrested an 18-year-old youth from Chandrapur district in connection with a case involving the alleged circulation of board exam papers on social media platforms. The arrest was made on Thursday following a complaint received by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

Details of the Alleged Circulation

The police investigation revealed that the accused utilized a specific feature of a mobile messenger application to create a false chronological record. This manipulation made it appear as though he was in possession of leaked mathematics part-2 or science part-1 question papers before the actual examination commenced. Senior police inspector Ganesh Dighavkar of Shivajinagar explained the technique employed by the suspect.

"The accused used the file manipulation technique. Once a PDF file is uploaded on the app, it can be replaced at any time. He uploaded the password-protected file a day before the exam and posted messages on the group about the availability of the paper for Rs600," stated Dighavkar.

Board's Clarification and Investigation

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education issued a statement on Thursday to address the situation. Board secretary Deepak Mali provided details regarding the complaint received on March 9 about the alleged circulation of mathematics part-1 and mathematics part-2 question papers on social media.

"Upon verification of the link concerned, it was found that a group named ‘Maharashtra State Board 2026' displayed a message claiming that the maths part-1 question paper was circulated a day earlier on March 6. However, there is no evidence indicating that the question paper was available a day before the exam," Mali clarified.

The board emphasized that no actual question paper leak occurred before the commencement of the examination. This clarification aims to reassure students and parents about the integrity of the examination process.

Police Action and Legal Implications

The arrest highlights the increasing challenges authorities face in combating digital fraud and misinformation related to academic examinations. The police have taken swift action to investigate the matter and apprehend the individual responsible for the alleged circulation.

This case serves as a reminder of the legal consequences associated with attempting to manipulate examination processes through technological means. The authorities are likely to pursue further investigations to determine if there are any additional individuals involved in this incident.

The Maharashtra State Board continues to monitor social media platforms for any unauthorized circulation of examination materials and encourages students to report suspicious activities immediately.
