The Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education has announced the results for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination for the academic year 2023-2024. The state has witnessed a marginal improvement in its overall pass percentage, reaching 94.31% this year compared to 93.80% in the previous year.
Girls Outperform Boys
Consistent with past trends, female students have outperformed their male counterparts. The pass percentage for girls stood at an impressive 96.47%, while boys achieved a pass rate of 92.15%, marking a significant gender gap of 4.32 percentage points.
Exam Participation
A total of 8,70,643 students appeared for the SSLC examination across the state. This includes 4,35,247 girls and 4,35,396 boys, indicating a near-equal gender distribution among test-takers.
District Performance
Pudukottai district emerged as the top performer with a pass percentage of 97.57%, closely followed by Sivagangai district at 97.54%. In the district-wise ranking, Chennai secured the 29th position with a pass percentage of 92.34%.
School Category Performance
Among government schools, Sivaganga district led with a pass percentage of 97.42%, while Pudukottai followed closely at 97.09%. A total of 12,647 schools participated in the examination. Of these, 5,171 schools achieved a perfect 100% pass rate, including 1,931 government schools. Furthermore, 8,233 schools recorded a pass percentage exceeding 95%, with 3,463 of them being government schools.
In terms of school category, private schools topped the list with an average pass percentage of 98.14%. Government schools recorded a pass percentage of 91.86%, while aided schools achieved 94.34%. Girls' schools performed exceptionally well with a pass percentage of 96.42%, whereas boys' schools lagged behind at 88.50%.
This year's SSLC results highlight the continued academic improvement in Tamil Nadu, with notable achievements at the district and school levels.
