NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: 22.8L Aspirants Appear Amid Security

The NEET-UG 2026 re-examination commenced today with more than 22.79 lakh candidates expected to appear at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India and 14 international locations. The re-test follows allegations of irregularities in the earlier examination, prompting authorities to implement extensive security measures, including CCTV surveillance, signal jammers, strict frisking, and multi-layer police deployment.

Multi-Layer Security and CCTV Surveillance in Place

Authorities across the country have rolled out unprecedented security protocols for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. CCTV cameras have been installed at all examination centres to monitor premises and prevent malpractice. Signal jammers are blocking unauthorised electronic communication, while strict frisking procedures are being followed before candidates enter examination halls.

Intelligence units and cyber monitoring teams are tracking suspicious activities and misinformation on social media platforms. Security personnel are escorting question papers and answer sheets from strong rooms to centres. Union minister Ramdas Athawale stated that the government has taken stringent steps to avoid a repeat of earlier controversies, adding that those responsible for any wrongdoing must face strict punishment.

Over 22.79 Lakh Candidates to Appear at 5,440 Centres

The National Testing Agency (NTA) confirmed that more than 22.79 lakh candidates are set to appear for the re-examination at 5,440 centres spread across 551 cities in India and 14 centres abroad. Entry to examination centres began at 11am, with gates closing at 1.30pm. No candidate will be permitted entry after the deadline.

Candidates have been instructed to bring their admit card, a valid photo ID, and two passport-sized photographs. The NTA advised aspirants not to carry any prohibited items, remain adequately hydrated, factor in possible traffic delays, and arrive at their designated centres well before the reporting time.

Government and States Review Preparedness

Officials in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana, Tripura, and Himachal Pradesh, have reviewed preparations ahead of the examination. Police and district administrations conducted inspections of examination centres, checked surveillance systems, and finalised traffic management plans. Additional arrangements have been made at railway stations and bus stands to assist candidates.

Police teams have been deployed for secure transportation of question papers and answer sheets. Cyber monitoring units are tracking social media platforms to curb misinformation and prevent attempts to disrupt the examination process. Authorities expressed confidence that all necessary arrangements have been completed to ensure the smooth conduct of one of India's largest entrance examinations.

NTA Encourages Candidates: 'Stay Calm, Trust Yourself'

The NTA posted on X: "This is the day you've prepared for. Stay calm, trust yourself, and give it your best - you've earned this moment. You've got this. We're rooting for you!" The agency also reiterated important examination-day guidelines and reporting schedules for candidates.
