Mother and Son from Shahkot Clear Class 12 Exams Together, Inspire Village
In a heartwarming tale of determination and familial support, a mother and son from Shahkot have become the talk of the town after they cleared their Class 12 board examinations together. The duo, comprising 38-year-old Rajinder Kaur and her 17-year-old son Gurpreet Singh, studied side by side, proving that age is no barrier to education.
Rajinder Kaur, a homemaker, decided to resume her education after a gap of over two decades. She enrolled in the same school as her son, attending classes and studying together. Their joint effort not only strengthened their bond but also inspired fellow students and villagers alike.
Both Rajinder and Gurpreet appeared for the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) exams earlier this year. The results, announced recently, showed that both had passed with flying colors. Rajinder secured 72% marks, while Gurpreet scored 78%. Their achievement has been celebrated across the village, with neighbors and relatives praising their dedication.
Rajinder shared her journey, saying, "I always wanted to complete my education, but family responsibilities took precedence. When my son started preparing for his exams, I decided to join him. We studied together every evening, clarifying doubts and encouraging each other." Gurpreet added, "My mother’s determination motivated me to work harder. We would revise together and take practice tests. It was a unique experience, but it made us closer."
The school principal, Harpreet Singh, commended the duo, stating, "Rajinder’s decision to study with her son is commendable. She has set an example for many parents who wish to pursue education later in life. Their success has motivated other students and adults in the village to consider continuing their studies."
Local villagers have hailed the mother-son duo as role models. Many have expressed their admiration, with some even considering enrolling in adult education programs. The story has also gained attention on social media, with netizens praising the pair for their perseverance.
Rajinder plans to pursue higher education, aspiring to become a teacher. Gurpreet aims to study engineering. Their journey serves as a powerful reminder that it is never too late to learn, and that family support can overcome any obstacle.
