Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been conferred the prestigious Fit India – Gold FERN Recognition Award by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. This award acknowledges the university's remarkable efforts in promoting a healthy, green, and vehicle-free campus while advancing the objectives of the Fit India Movement.
Leadership and Initiatives
Under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, JMI has implemented several innovative initiatives to support the Fit India Movement. Their leadership has fostered a strong cycling culture across the university community, encouraging the adoption of healthier lifestyles and significantly contributing to a pollution-free and environmentally friendly campus.
Presentation of the Award
The award was presented by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Dr. Vikas Sitaramji Nagrale, University Librarian, JMI, was nominated to receive the award on behalf of the institution.
JMI's administration has taken several effective measures to transform the campus into a vehicle-free, clean, and eco-friendly environment. Well-organized parking facilities have been developed for all vehicle users, including female students, with special emphasis on creating and maintaining a green campus. These sustained efforts have made Jamia Millia Islamia a model institution in promoting healthy living, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.
