The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 English Language and Literature examination, conducted on February 21, has garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback from students across India. Initial reactions indicate that the majority of candidates found the question paper to be easy, straightforward, and well within manageable limits for the allotted time frame.
Examination Details and Student Demographics
For the 2026 board examinations, a substantial total of 25,08,319 Class 10 students are appearing nationwide. These candidates are distributed across 8,075 examination centres throughout the country, covering an extensive range of 83 different subjects. The demographic breakdown reveals that 14,08,546 boys and 10,99,773 girls are participating in these crucial examinations.
The English Language and Literature paper was administered in a single shift from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, adhering strictly to established CBSE guidelines and protocols. Welcome Relief After Challenging Mathematics Paper
Many students expressed that the English examination came as a significant relief following the Mathematics paper, which served as the first major board examination conducted on February 17. The contrast between the two subjects was particularly noticeable, with English being perceived as more predictable and substantially less stressful than its mathematical counterpart.
"The paper was easy; we will not term it moderate or hard. It was better than the Maths paper, which was difficult, especially the Basic Maths paper, though the Standard Maths paper was relatively easier," commented Rizwan, reflecting a common sentiment among test-takers.
Direct NCERT-Based Questions Enhance Accessibility
A key factor contributing to the positive reception was the paper's strong alignment with the prescribed NCERT textbook. Students reported that most questions were asked directly from the standard curriculum material, making the examination more accessible and less intimidating for candidates who had thoroughly prepared using these resources.
"In today's English paper, the questions were directly asked from the NCERT, so it was easy to attempt them. The paragraphs were also simple. We could understand them clearly and answer without much confusion," explained Ishrar, highlighting the clarity and straightforward nature of the reading comprehension sections.
The reading passages themselves were described as particularly clear and scoring, with students able to complete this section efficiently and with confidence. This accessibility likely contributed to the overall positive experience reported by examination participants.
Minor Challenges in Grammar Section
While the overall consensus pointed toward an easy examination, some students reported encountering minor challenges within the grammar section. Specific grammatical concepts, particularly reported speech, presented slight difficulties for a subset of candidates.
"The paper was easy overall and most sections were straightforward. However, I found some questions in the grammar section a bit difficult, especially those on reported speech," noted Ishan, representing the experience of those who faced these specific hurdles.
Despite these isolated challenges, the majority of students confirmed they were able to complete the entire paper within the allocated time, with many having additional minutes available for revision and review of their answers.
