Indian Airlines Resume Long-Haul Flights with Strategic Rerouting
Indian carriers have initiated a phased resumption of long-haul and ultra-long-haul flight operations by implementing strategic rerouting to circumvent restricted airspace zones. This move comes as part of coordinated efforts to restore international connectivity while prioritizing passenger safety and operational efficiency.
Current Flight Operations and Future Plans
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has confirmed that Indian airlines are operating a total of 24 flights today. Additionally, Emirates and Etihad have conducted nine flights from the Gulf region within the last 24 hours, maintaining limited services despite operational challenges.
Looking ahead, Indian carriers have scheduled 58 flights for Wednesday, comprising 30 services by IndiGo and 23 by Air India and Air India Express. Airlines are deploying additional capacity where necessary and collaborating with foreign aviation authorities and Indian missions abroad to ensure safe and orderly passenger movement.
Enhanced Passenger Assistance and Safety Measures
Special arrangements are being implemented to assist stranded passengers overseas, with airlines working closely with diplomatic missions to facilitate their return. The Ministry emphasized that passenger safety remains the paramount concern, instructing all airlines to maintain transparent communication regarding flight status, refunds, rescheduling, and assistance protocols.

Fare Monitoring and Operational Coordination
To prevent exploitation during this period of route adjustments, the Civil Aviation Ministry has intensified monitoring of airfares to curb any undue surge in ticket prices. Passengers are strongly advised to verify the latest flight status directly with their airlines before heading to airports and to rely exclusively on official sources for updates.
The Ministry maintains continuous coordination with multiple stakeholders, including:

- Ministry of External Affairs
This collaborative approach aims to restore normal operations smoothly and provide effective support to affected travelers. "Further updates will be issued as necessary," the Ministry concluded.
Impact on Flight Schedules
To date, the ongoing situation has resulted in the cancellation of 1,221 flights operated by Indian carriers and 388 flights by foreign airlines. Foreign carriers operating between India and the Gulf continue to offer limited services, subject to operational constraints and prevailing airspace restrictions.
