Dense Fog and Cold Wave Wreak Havoc on Rail Services
Rail services across northern India continue to face massive disruptions. Dense fog and severe cold wave conditions are hampering operations throughout the region. These weather challenges have led to prolonged delays and repeated cancellations on several important routes.
Visibility Issues Cripple Train Schedules
Poor visibility during early morning and late evening hours has severely impacted train schedules. This situation is causing significant inconvenience for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike. Many passengers find themselves stranded at stations for extended periods.
Major Trains Experience Extreme Delays
Among the worst-affected services was the Amritsar Garib Rath Express. This train ran more than sixteen hours behind schedule. Passengers endured long hours of waiting at stations without clear information about departure times.
The Amritsar Clone Special faced an extraordinary delay exceeding fourteen hours. Meanwhile, the Mour Dhwaj Express fell behind schedule by approximately ten hours.
Multiple Services Fail to Maintain Timings
Several other trains also failed to operate according to their published timetables. The New Delhi Intercity Superfast Express experienced delays of nearly two hours. Both the Amritsar Jan Shatabdi Express and Chhattisgarh Express were each running about one hour late.
Additional affected services included:
- Amritsar Intercity Express - delayed around two hours
- Andaman Express - delayed around two hours
- Amritsar Jansadharan Express - approximately three hours behind schedule
- Akal Takht Express - approximately three hours behind schedule
- Saryu Yamuna Express - delayed nearly three and a half hours
Cancellations Add to Passenger Frustration
Adding to the travel chaos, numerous cancellations continued to disrupt passenger plans. Several important trains remained completely off the tracks. The cancelled services included:
- New Delhi-Amritsar Vande Bharat Express
- Amritsar-Hisar Express
- Jalandhar City Intercity Express
- Jammu Tawi Express
- Delhi Sarai Rohilla Duronto Express
- Jammu Mail
Cancellation of passenger trains left many travelers frustrated and confused. Some passengers reached stations only to discover their trains had been scrapped from the schedule entirely.
Passenger Voices Frustration Over Disruptions
One affected passenger shared his experience. "I forgot to check the schedule before leaving home," said Sagarjit. "Only after reaching the station did I find that the train had been cancelled. This is so frustrating. Now I will have to wait for a few hours for another train."
Rail Authorities Struggle to Restore Normalcy
With fog showing no immediate signs of clearing, rail authorities continue to face significant challenges. They are working to restore normal operations but progress remains slow. Thousands of passengers face uncertainty about their travel plans as the situation persists.
The combination of dense fog and cold temperatures creates particularly difficult operating conditions for railway staff. Safety protocols require reduced speeds during poor visibility, which naturally extends journey times across the network.
