Bengaluru Vande Bharat Trains Set for Major Operational Revamp
In a significant development for rail commuters, two Vande Bharat trains originating from Bengaluru are poised for substantial changes in their timings and operational patterns. The South Western Railway (SWR) has put forth a proposal that could reshape the schedules of these premium services, with the Bengaluru-Kalaburagi route potentially witnessing a much-anticipated terminal shift from SMVT Bengaluru to KSR Bengaluru.
Proposed Timetable Adjustments Await Railway Board Nod
Earlier this month, SWR unveiled a draft timetable outlining modifications for the Vande Bharat services connecting Bengaluru with Kalaburagi and Belagavi. These proposed alterations must secure clearance from the railway board before implementation, marking a critical step in the process.
For the Bengaluru-Belagavi Vande Bharat train, the schedule remains largely unchanged under the proposal. The service will continue to depart from Belagavi at 5:35 AM, arriving in the state capital by 1:50 PM. The return journey will maintain its 2:20 PM departure from Bengaluru, reaching Belagavi by 10:30 PM. However, a notable adjustment involves the maintenance day: the train will not operate on Thursdays, replacing its previous Wednesday maintenance schedule.
Kalaburagi Service to See Earlier Departures and Terminal Shift
The Bengaluru-Kalaburagi Vande Bharat train is set for more pronounced changes. Operational timings are proposed to shift, with the train starting 10 minutes earlier at 6:00 AM from Kalaburagi. It will then arrive in Bengaluru at 1:50 PM, instead of the current 2:10 PM. The return service will depart from KSR Bengaluru at 2:40 PM, reaching Kalaburagi by 10:40 PM.
Additionally, maintenance days for both trains will be reconfigured. The 22231 Kalaburagi-Bengaluru Vande Bharat will not run on Thursdays, moving from its previous Friday break, while the 22232 Bengaluru-Kalaburagi service will take a Wednesday hiatus instead of Thursdays.
Rationale Behind the Proposed Changes
According to SWR officials, these adjustments are driven by a planned shift of train maintenance operations to Belagavi. This strategic move aims to optimize maintenance logistics and enhance service reliability for passengers across both routes.
The proposed terminal change for the Bengaluru-Kalaburagi Vande Bharat—from SMVT Bengaluru to KSR Bengaluru—addresses long-standing passenger demands for improved connectivity and convenience. If approved, this shift could streamline travel for commuters and better integrate the service with Bengaluru's central rail network.
As the proposals await formal approval, rail enthusiasts and daily commuters alike are keenly watching for updates. The changes, once implemented, promise to refine the Vande Bharat experience, aligning it more closely with passenger needs and operational efficiencies.
