Bengaluru Railway Station to Welcome New Train-Themed Dining Experience

In a move to elevate passenger amenities and boost revenue, South Western Railway (SWR) is set to introduce a second eatery designed like a train compartment at KSR Bengaluru railway station. This initiative marks the third such rail coach restaurant in the city, following two existing ones at KSR Bengaluru and SMVT Bengaluru stations, both operated by private licensees.

Project Details and Timeline

According to Ashutosh Kumar Singh, the Bengaluru divisional railway manager of SWR, the new restaurant is currently under commissioning and is anticipated to be operational within 45 days. "A third rail coach restaurant is under commissioning to enhance passenger experience. Work is going on and is expected to be completed in 45 days. It will be located at the third entry of the station," Singh stated. This development is part of SWR's broader strategy to increase non-fare revenue through catering services.

Revenue Growth and Future Plans

The catering sector has proven lucrative for SWR's Bengaluru division, which achieved a record revenue of nearly Rs 17.4 crore in the financial year 2025-26, surpassing the previous high of Rs 16.5 crore. Looking ahead, SWR plans to further diversify its offerings by bringing global fast-food brands to station platforms, aiming to provide airport-standard food options for travelers. Once civil construction is finalized, the allotment for these premium-brand catering outlets will be conducted via an e-auction, with licenses granted for a five-year period, mirroring the process used for existing stalls.

This expansion not only aims to improve the dining experience for passengers but also aligns with SWR's goal of maximizing revenue streams beyond ticket sales, contributing to the overall modernization of railway facilities in Bengaluru.
