Air India Expands International Network

In related development news, Air India separately announced it will resume direct flights from Delhi to Shanghai starting February 1, 2026. This marks the return of the route after nearly six years of suspension since the COVID-19 pandemic began in early 2020.

The airline will operate four flights weekly on this route using Boeing 787-8 aircraft configured with 18 business class and 238 economy class seats. Shanghai will become the 48th international destination served by the Air India group.

Additionally, the carrier revealed plans to introduce non-stop services between Mumbai and Shanghai in 2026, pending regulatory approvals. The resumption of India-China air connectivity continues with IndiGo's Kolkata-Guangzhou route restarting on October 26 and China Eastern Airlines recommencing Delhi-Shanghai flights on November 10.
