Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Flags Off 40 New Electric Buses in Azadpur
Delhi CM launches 40 e-buses, redeveloped Azadpur terminal

In a significant push for sustainable public transport, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a new fleet of 40 electric buses on Tuesday. The flag-off ceremony was held at the newly redeveloped Azadpur bus terminal, marking a dual celebration for the capital's commuters.

A Milestone for Green Mobility

This latest addition brings the total number of electric buses launched by the BJP government to 1,400 in just the last eight months. The fleet includes a mix of nine-metre-long and twelve-metre-long bus models, designed to cater to different route requirements across the city. This rapid expansion underscores the administration's commitment to modernizing Delhi's public transit system and reducing its carbon footprint.

Azadpur Terminal: A Glimpse into Modern Public Infrastructure

Alongside the e-buses, Chief Minister Gupta also officially opened the revamped Azadpur bus terminal. The terminal has been transformed into a commuter-friendly hub equipped with a host of modern amenities. Key features include:

  • Spacious and modern waiting areas
  • A dedicated baby-feeding room for mothers
  • A dedicated section for bus pass services
  • Passenger lockers for secure storage
  • Shaded platforms for comfort

The infrastructure also boasts several green and smart initiatives, such as solar panels, bio-digesters, and comprehensive CCTV surveillance, ensuring both sustainability and passenger safety.

Rebuilding Delhi's Transport Legacy

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta drew a contrast with the previous administration. She stated, "The public chose change, and the government has converted that mandate into development and service." She accused the former government of policies that weakened the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and affirmed her government's determination to rebuild the DTC into a financially sound organisation.

The simultaneous launch of the electric bus fleet and the state-of-the-art terminal signals a robust effort to enhance the daily travel experience for millions of Delhi residents while steering the city towards a greener future.
