Ahmedabad's SatLeo Labs Secures $2.2 Million in Seed Funding Round

Ahmedabad-based spacetech startup SatLeo Labs has successfully raised $2.2 million in a seed funding round, led by Unicorn India Ventures. This latest investment brings the company's total funding to an impressive $5.5 million to date, as confirmed by the founders. The round also included participation from existing investors such as Merak Ventures, Java Capital, IIMA Ventures, and deeptech investor Manish Gandhi.

Funding to Boost Thermal Satellite and AI Platform Development

The newly acquired funds will be strategically deployed to advance SatLeo Labs' flagship thermal satellite mission and the development of its AI-powered platform for thermal intelligence applications. According to the founders, this investment will accelerate the startup's efforts in capturing high-resolution thermal and visible data from low Earth orbit (LEO), enhancing its capabilities in providing actionable insights.

Milestone Achievement with TAPAS-1 Payload

In a significant development, SatLeo Labs has achieved a major milestone by designing and delivering its first experimental thermal payload, TAPAS-1, for satellite integration. This accomplishment was completed within just six months, reaching Technology Readiness Level (TRL)-8 readiness. The system is now positioned for launch, marking a critical step forward in the startup's mission to deploy a constellation of thermal imaging satellites.

CEO's Vision and Practical Applications

Shravan Bhati, co-founder and CEO of SatLeo Labs, emphasized the company's goal of developing a constellation of thermal imaging satellites to deliver scalable, actionable thermal intelligence. The startup is already making practical contributions by providing data inputs to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) as part of the Heat Action Plan (HAP). This initiative aims to predict heat impact in the city, showcasing the real-world applications of SatLeo's technology in urban planning and public health.
