Panchkula Police Arrest Accused in Rs 20 Lakh Gold Investment Fraud
Panchkula Police Arrest Accused in Rs 20 Lakh Gold Fraud

The economic offences wing of the Panchkula police has successfully apprehended an absconding accused from Delhi in connection with a cheating case involving Rs 20 lakh. The case pertains to fraudulent promises of gold investments at discounted rates. The accused has been identified as Mandeep Makkad, a resident of Sector 10, Panchkula. His arrest came after an extensive search and technical investigation.

Details of the Fraud

According to the police, the complainant came into contact with Makkad, who enticed him to invest money by promising high returns through the purchase of gold at reduced prices. The accused allegedly claimed that premium quality gold could be arranged through an associate named Pankaj Rana, who was purportedly linked to a reputed jewellery business. Trusting these claims, the complainant handed over approximately Rs 20 lakh to the accused. However, neither the promised gold was delivered nor was the money returned. The police reported that the accused and his associate consistently delayed the matter whenever repayment or gold delivery was demanded. The complainant eventually approached senior police officials after suspecting fraud.

Investigation and Arrest

During the investigation led by Inspector Sukhbir Singh and Sub-Inspector Harender of the economic offences wing, it was discovered that the co-accused, Pankaj Rana, had already passed away, a fact confirmed through official records. ACP Vikram Nehra stated that Makkad was arrested on May 19 from Delhi and subsequently sent to judicial custody. The police also noted that several cases related to cheating and cheque bounce are already pending against the accused in Panchkula.
