Punjab Govt Slashes Plot Enhancement Fee, Rs 200 Crore Relief for Mohali Sectors 76-80
Rs 200 Crore Relief for Mohali Residents as Govt Cuts Plot Fee

In a landmark decision bringing immense financial relief, residents of Sectors 76 to 80 in Mohali have finally seen resolution to a 15-year-old grievance. The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has approved a substantial reduction in the plot enhancement amount, offering a total benefit estimated at a staggering Rs 200 crore to the affected plot holders.

A Long-Pending Burden Lifted

For over a decade and a half, residents of these sectors had been grappling with the high enhancement charges levied by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). The issue had become a source of significant distress and financial worry for countless families. The resolution comes as a major policy intervention by the current Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, which took up the long-stalled matter for decisive action.

The Step-by-Step Reduction

Detailing the sequence of events, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh addressed the media. He revealed that GMADA had initially proposed bringing down the enhancement charge from the original rate of Rs 3,164 per square metre to Rs 2,325 per square metre. Following cabinet approval for this reduction, Singh pursued the matter further with the Chief Minister, advocating for an even greater cut to ease the burden on residents.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, considering the request, finalized the amount at Rs 2,216 per square metre. This final rate is Rs 948 less per square metre than the original charge. This further reduction alone translated into an additional benefit of Rs 20 crore for the plot holders, on top of the relief already proposed.

Implications and Public Response

The drastic slash in the enhancement charge is being hailed as a significant pro-people move. The collective savings of Rs 200 crore will directly boost the disposable income of residents, many of whom are middle-class families. The resolution not only provides financial relief but also restores faith in administrative processes, demonstrating how persistent advocacy and responsive governance can address long-standing civic issues.

The move is expected to positively impact the real estate sentiment in these sectors, potentially encouraging further development and stability. Residents have expressed widespread relief and appreciation, marking the end of a 15-year wait for a fair solution to the problematic enhancement charges.
