Noida has officially welcomed its first dedicated clock tower, marking a significant step in the city's urban beautification efforts. The structure was inaugurated on Thursday by the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, Lokesh M.
A New Landmark for a Growing Hub
The new clock tower is strategically located in Sector 128, near the Hajipur underpass along the busy Noida Expressway. This area has rapidly transformed into a major centre for residential complexes, IT parks, and corporate offices. The authority believes the tower will provide a distinct visual identity to this burgeoning sector.
Standing 25 feet tall, the tower was constructed using bricks and granite at an approximate cost of Rs 30 lakh. Its design draws inspiration from the iconic Clock Tower of Mangaluru. The structure features two floors and is complemented by carefully landscaped gardens, creating a new focal point for the community.
An Even Larger Attraction on the Horizon
Even as the first tower begins its life as a city landmark, the Noida Authority is putting the finishing touches on a second and far larger project. The city's largest clock tower, a 75-foot-tall marvel, is being constructed near the GIP Mall, close to the police check post.
Officials have confirmed that this massive structure is nearly complete and is scheduled for inauguration on January 24. With a budget of nearly Rs 2 crore, this tower is expected to become a major attraction. Its design pays homage to the historic Lal Chowk clock tower in Srinagar, Kashmir.
More Than Just Timekeepers
Clock towers have historically played a crucial role in urban landscapes, evolving beyond their primary function. They serve as popular meeting points, easy reference markers for giving directions, and symbols of local pride. In modern city planning, structures like these form an integral part of urban design and beautification projects.
By enhancing traffic circles, intersections, and public spaces, they contribute significantly to making cityscapes more visually appealing and organised. The addition of these two towers in Noida underscores the authority's focus on improving civic aesthetics alongside infrastructure development.
