Noida Authority's New Administrative Building in Sector 96 Nears Completion, Inauguration Set for Next Month

The Noida Authority's primary administrative building, located in Sector 96, is on the verge of completion and is slated for inauguration next month. Officials have confirmed that construction work has been finalized, with air-conditioning systems currently undergoing rigorous testing. Simultaneously, workers are applying the finishing touches to the surrounding greenbelt, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the new complex.

Project Overview and Historical Delays

Initiated on January 5, 2016, with an original deadline of January 2, 2019, this Rs 390-crore project faced significant setbacks. The Covid-19 pandemic and the default of the original contractor led to prolonged delays. In May 2022, the contract was terminated, and the firm was blacklisted after failing to meet obligations. Fresh tenders were issued, and a new contractor was appointed in October 2022 to complete the remaining civil work.

To ensure structural integrity, the Noida Authority commissioned a safety audit from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D). The December 2024 report identified weaknesses in key structural elements such as walls, beams, and pillars, recommending necessary remedial measures. Officials have since implemented these changes to fortify the building, ensuring it meets all safety standards.

Design Revisions and Cost Efficiency

Originally planned as two towers with 18 and 9 floors, the design was later revised to feature towers of four and eight floors. This modification not only streamlined the construction process but also reduced the project cost from an initial estimate of Rs 478 crore to the final Rs 390 crore, demonstrating improved fiscal management.

Benefits for Residents and Enhanced Connectivity

Once operational, the new building will consolidate all Noida Authority departments under a single roof, addressing the current fragmentation where offices are scattered across multiple sectors. For instance, the main administrative office is in Sector 6, the horticulture department in Sector 39, and other offices in Sectors 19 and 20. This consolidation is expected to significantly improve efficiency and convenience for residents.

SP Singh, General Manager of the Noida Authority, stated, "Construction work has finished, and air-conditioning systems are currently being tested. We have also procured furniture for the new office. We anticipate the building's inauguration next month, after which departments will gradually transition to the new location."

The complex's strategic proximity to the Noida Expressway offers excellent connectivity to various sectors and neighboring areas, facilitating easier access for visitors. This is a marked improvement over the current Sector 6 office, which is relatively small, lacks parking space, and often causes congestion due to roadside parking.

Community Response and Future Outlook

Residents have welcomed the project, expressing hope for its timely completion. KK Jain, General Secretary of the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA), remarked, "Many residents from sectors and villages visit the Noida Authority for various tasks. Currently, offices are dispersed, with the main office in Sector 6, horticulture in Sector 39, and water department in Sector 5. The new office will immensely benefit people by centralizing services."

As final preparations continue, including testing of utilities and landscaping, the Noida Authority is poised to inaugurate this state-of-the-art facility next month, marking a significant milestone in urban administration and public service delivery for the region.
