Ludhiana MC Demolishes 7 Illegal Structures in Major Crackdown
Ludhiana MC demolishes, seals 7 illegal buildings

In a decisive move against unauthorized urban development, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) carried out a significant enforcement drive on Friday. The civic body's building branch demolished or sealed a total of seven illegal structures found across various parts of the city.

Direct Orders from the Top Drive Action

This crackdown was executed under the direct orders of MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal. Officials, primarily from Zone D, focused their efforts on several prominent commercial and residential areas. The action is a key part of the MC's broader mission to strictly implement the recently notified unified building bylaws and to penalize individuals and entities who circumvent the official approval process for construction.

Details of the Targeted Properties

Assistant Town Planner (ATP) Harvinder Singh provided specifics on the violations. He confirmed that the targeted properties were either being constructed without any sanctioned building plans or were in clear breach of established zoning regulations.

The MC team undertook demolitions at two locations: one on Kochar Market Road and another in Gurdev Nagar. Simultaneously, sealing actions were carried out at five other sites. These included two structures on BRS Nagar Road, two on the Dugri-Jawaddi Road, and one on Ghumar Mandi-College Road.

Warnings Ignored, Drive to Intensify

The building branch officials noted that the owners of the sealed properties had been issued repeated warnings about their non-compliance before the sealing teams finally arrived. ATP Harvinder Singh emphasized that this enforcement drive is not a one-off event but is set to become more rigorous in the coming weeks. The goal is to deter spontaneous and unapproved construction activities that plague the city's development landscape.

"The civic body appeals to all residents to commence construction only after obtaining digital approval through the proper channels," Singh stated firmly. He issued a clear warning: "Failure to produce a sanctioned plan will lead to immediate demolition without further notice."

This strong action coincides with the city's transition to a new self-certification model for building approvals. Officials are hopeful that this model, by making the legal approval process faster and more transparent, will significantly reduce the incentive for illegal constructions in Ludhiana.
