Ludhiana Improvement Trust Unveils One-Time Property Regularisation Policy
The Local Bodies Department in Ludhiana has officially introduced a significant one-time relaxation policy aimed at regularising properties that were originally allotted by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT). This initiative specifically targets cases where allottees failed to deposit the remaining balances as stipulated in their original allotment letters. The policy represents a major step towards resolving long-standing issues in property ownership and development within the region.
Key Deadlines and Eligibility Criteria
Eligible residents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity, with the application window open until April 30. To secure the benefits under this state-wide scheme, all outstanding payments must be cleared by June 15. LIT Chairman Tarsem Bhinder has publicly encouraged the public to utilise this policy, emphasising its importance following substantial demand at the government level across Punjab.
Bhinder explained that the policy was issued after careful consideration of public demand, extending to all municipal improvement trusts in Punjab. It applies to properties where allottees have not deposited the remaining balance within the stipulated time. However, this exemption is only applicable if the allottee has deposited at least one-fourth of the amount after the property allotment.
Financial Terms and Application Process
Under the new regulations, allottees can regularise their properties by depositing the remaining amount at the applicable rate, calculated with simple interest. Additionally, restoration charges are set at a rate of 2.5% based on the reserve rate for the year 2025-26, as per rules issued from time to time. A complete exemption has been granted on penalty interest, providing significant financial relief to property owners.
Through a public notice, the LIT has informed allottees, transferees, and current owners of properties under the trust's development schemes about the process. To benefit from this policy, individuals must deposit the outstanding amount by June 15, either in person at the trust office or by submitting a request via email. The LIT office remains open on all working days for public inquiries and further clarification regarding these revised regulations.
Separate Development: Demolition Drive in Kitchlu Nagar
In a related development, LIT officials conducted a significant demolition drive in Kitchlu Nagar. Supported by a heavy police contingent, the trust took formal possession of a site originally intended for a community center, whose allotment had been previously cancelled. During the operation, officials demolished the existing boundary wall and internal structures.
Following the successful recovery of the land, the trust now plans to initiate a replanning process to determine the future development of the reclaimed site. This action underscores the LIT's commitment to enforcing regulations and optimising urban development in Ludhiana.
