The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is set to roll out a significant new housing benefit specifically for the nation's bravest soldiers. In a pioneering move for Uttar Pradesh, the authority will propose an additional 5% discount on flats for armed forces personnel who have been honoured with gallantry awards for exceptional bravery.
A First-of-its-Kind Initiative in Uttar Pradesh
According to senior LDA officials, this proposal will make the authority the first development body in the state to extend such a dedicated concession to gallantry awardees. No other authority in UP currently provides a special discount of this nature. The proposal is scheduled to be presented and discussed during the upcoming LDA board meeting, which is expected to be held on December 5.
The initiative is being framed as a substantial and concrete gesture to acknowledge the immense contributions and sacrifices of soldiers who have served in high-risk operations. "We wanted a concrete way to acknowledge their service, not just a symbolic gesture," explained a senior LDA official. "A housing benefit is something that supports families directly and provides long-term security."
Eligibility and Application of the Discount
If the board gives its approval, the special discount will be exclusively available to recipients of major gallantry awards. This includes prestigious honours such as the Shaurya Chakra and the Kirti Chakra.
The benefit will be applied at the time of purchasing LDA flats. Importantly, this 5% discount will be in addition to any other existing concessions that the eligible buyers might already qualify for. This layered benefit structure is designed to offer meaningful financial support to military families, directly aiding LDA's efforts to prioritise their housing needs.
Flat Rates Frozen for a Year to Aid All Buyers
In a related decision aimed at providing market stability, the LDA has also announced that there will be no price hike for its vacant flats over the next year. The rates will remain frozen, offering relief to buyers during a phase where the real estate market has been slow.
Officials stated that this rate freeze is intended to benefit all potential buyers, including both military personnel and the general public. It will shield them from potential increases in construction costs or sudden market shifts. "People are already cautious in this market. Keeping rates unchanged for a year offers stability at a time when many need it," an LDA official remarked.
The combination of the special discount for gallantry award winners and the year-long price freeze is expected to strengthen LDA's outreach and provide tangible support to those looking to own a home in Lucknow.
