Kolkata's Sector V to Gain New Parking Facility for Upcoming Town Hall

In a move to address anticipated parking shortages, the Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has announced plans to develop a vacant plot in Kolkata's Sector V into a dedicated parking lot. The site, located beside a large water body off the Sector V Ring Road opposite the upcoming Town Hall, is expected to accommodate approximately 50 vehicles once operational.

Addressing Future Parking Demand

Officials from NDITA have highlighted the significant demand for parking that is projected to arise once the Town Hall becomes fully functional. "The plan is to inaugurate the town hall after the election. There will be a requirement for adequate parking space, especially when large social events are held, as there will also be rooms for guests," stated an official. This proactive measure aims to prevent congestion and ensure smooth access to the new civic facility.

Development Plans and Cost Efficiency

The development of the parking area will involve minimalistic yet effective improvements. "The land will be spruced up by doing some rolling work and laying paver blocks at minimal cost," the official added. NDITA intends to engage an agency not only for creating the car parking space but also for protecting the embankment of the adjacent water body, ensuring environmental considerations are integrated into the project.

Timeline and Additional Projects

The process to hire an agency for this job was initiated just two days before the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on March 15, indicating a strategic push to advance preparations ahead of the assembly polls. Furthermore, NDITA has outlined plans to commence work on a proposed second multi-storey parking complex in Sector V after the elections. This larger facility, set to be built on a one-acre plot, is designed to accommodate about 700 cars, significantly boosting parking capacity in the area.

The combined efforts underscore NDITA's commitment to enhancing infrastructure in Sector V, a key industrial and commercial hub in Kolkata, to support the growing needs of residents and visitors alike.
