KHB Plans New Housing Scheme in Honnihal Near Belagavi

The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) has taken a significant step forward in its plans to develop a new residential scheme in Honnihal village, located approximately 18 kilometers from Belagavi city. The proposed project will be established on around 92 acres and 7 gunta of land, marking the first major housing initiative by the KHB in the region in nearly a decade.

Project Background and Approval Process

The proposal has been submitted to the state government for approval. Once the government gives its nod, the KHB will issue a public notification inviting objections and suggestions from stakeholders. According to an official from the KHB office in Belagavi, the entire process from approval to public notification is expected to take around five to six months.

The last residential layout developed by the KHB in the area was Devaraj Urs Colony at Basavan Kudachi, which was completed almost ten years ago. The new project aims to address the growing housing demand in Belagavi city, which has seen a steady increase in population and urbanization.

Land Details and Compensation

The identified land for the new residential project is located in Survey Numbers 43/1 to 43/6 in Honnihal village. The KHB has assured that affected landowners will receive compensation, along with rehabilitation and resettlement benefits, as per the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The board has emphasized that the acquisition process will be carried out in a transparent manner, strictly adhering to legal provisions, including Section 11(1) of the 2013 Act. This ensures that landowners are fairly compensated and their rights are protected throughout the process.

Objectives and Benefits

The primary objectives of the new scheme are threefold:

  • Addressing Housing Demand: The project aims to provide affordable housing options to meet the increasing needs of Belagavi's growing population.
  • Improving Infrastructure: The development will include modern infrastructure facilities such as roads, water supply, drainage, and electricity, benefiting not only the residents but also the surrounding areas.
  • Boosting Local Economy: The construction and subsequent occupancy of the residential units are expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in Honnihal and nearby regions.

The KHB's initiative is seen as a crucial step toward planned urban development in Belagavi, offering a model for transparent land acquisition and sustainable housing. Once completed, the scheme is expected to provide homes for hundreds of families, contributing to the city's overall growth and livability.
