In a significant move to address traffic congestion and boost connectivity in South Goa, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Digambar Kamat conducted a detailed site inspection on Monday. The focus was on two major infrastructure projects: the proposed 5-kilometre flyover and the ongoing airport link flyover, with discussions also centering on crucial underpass plans.
Site Inspection for Major Vasco Flyovers
The primary site visit was for the proposed 5km flyover project intended to link the Toyota showroom at Verna directly to the Nagoa-Pirni junction. This ambitious corridor is expected to streamline traffic flow on one of the region's busiest stretches. Simultaneously, Minister Kamat reviewed the progress of the ongoing flyover construction from Dabolim airport to Upasnagar in Sancoale, a critical project aimed at improving access to the state's primary airport.
MLA's Push for Underpass Connectivity
The inspection was conducted following a request from Cortalim MLA Anton Vas. MLA Vas put forward specific proposals for enhanced local connectivity. He advocated for a plan to build an underpass near the Toyota showroom in Verna. This underpass would connect to an internal road leading to Quelossim, providing a vital alternate route for local communities.
Furthermore, discussions included a proposal for another underpass that would link to the scenic Kesarval spring and Verna waterfall areas. This move is seen not only as an infrastructure improvement but also as a potential boost to local tourism by improving access to these natural attractions.
Minister's Assurance on Feasibility Studies
In response to the proposals, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat provided assurances to MLA Anton Vas and other stakeholders. He stated that the government would explore viable solutions based on comprehensive feasibility studies and necessary technical approvals. This indicates that while the proposals are being taken seriously, their implementation will depend on detailed technical and environmental assessments.
The proactive inspection and discussions underscore the government's focus on developing Goa's road infrastructure to meet growing demands. The proposed flyovers and underpasses, once realized, promise to significantly decongest traffic, improve travel times, and enhance connectivity between key commercial, residential, and tourist zones in the Vasco and surrounding regions.
