Indore's Luv Kush Square Flyover Construction Enters Pivotal Stage
The ambitious construction of the double-decker flyover at Luv Kush Square in Indore is now entering its most critical and technically demanding phase. This Sunday night, engineers will execute a complex operation to position the first of two enormous steel girders, each weighing a staggering 400 tonnes and spanning 65 metres in length, across the main intersection.
Engineering Marvel: Precision Installation of Massive Girders
The installation process is a feat of modern engineering. Unlike conventional concrete segments that are typically lifted by cranes, these colossal steel girders were assembled directly atop the flyover structure. To place them, engineers will employ a specialized technique of pushing the girder across the span using iron rails, with crane support from below to ensure perfect balance and stability throughout the operation.
The girders will be installed at a height of 23 metres above ground level, creating the necessary clearance for the elevated roadway. The specific 65-metre length was strategically chosen to achieve a pillar-free design at the busy main square, which is expected to significantly enhance traffic flow once the entire project is completed.
Safety First: Night-Time Operations and Traffic Management
To guarantee public safety during this intricate procedure, traffic beneath the construction span will be completely halted. The operation has been scheduled for Sunday night specifically to minimize disruption and risk to the public. "The use of these massive steel girders is essential because we wanted a pillar-free main square. It's a precision task that requires night-time operations to minimise public risk," stated IDA CEO Parikshit Jhade, emphasizing the careful planning involved.
Once the first girder is successfully positioned, crews will proceed with meticulous levelling and finishing work. The initial launch this Sunday night will focus on the arm connecting Sanwer Road to Ujjain. Meanwhile, assembly of the second girder is already underway, with its launch scheduled for approximately one month from now.
Project Completion and Future Impact
Following the placement of both steel girders, construction will advance to the final stages. A double layer of asphalt will be applied over the balanced segments to complete the six-lane expressway. This infrastructure project represents a significant investment in Indore's urban mobility, aiming to alleviate congestion at one of the city's busiest intersections.
The Luv Kush Square double-decker flyover project showcases innovative engineering solutions to urban transportation challenges, combining massive structural elements with precise installation techniques to create a functional and efficient roadway system for Indore's future.
