Haryana's Chief Secretary, Anurag Rastogi, conducted a crucial review on Friday, focusing on the advancement of key infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic growth and social welfare in the state. The high-level meeting at the civil secretariat centered on the ambitious Unity Mall in Karnal and the construction of two working women hostels in Faridabad and Gurugram.
Karnal's Unity Mall: A Hub for MSMEs and Trade
During the review, significant attention was given to the Rs 162.88 crore Unity Mall project underway in Karnal. The mall is being constructed on a 3.87-acre plot located in Sector 37 of the city's Industrial Estate, strategically positioned along the historic Grand Trunk Road. Officials confirmed that excavation work is advancing swiftly, marking a key phase in the project's development.
Chief Secretary Rastogi directed all concerned departments to strictly follow the approved construction timeline while ensuring the highest quality standards are met. The project is being developed with major financial backing from both the Government of India and the Haryana government.
Rastogi emphasized the project's competitive edge due to its prime location on the Grand Trunk Road, which provides excellent connectivity to Delhi, Chandigarh, and other major northern cities. He noted that Karnal's rise as a burgeoning industrial and commercial hub within the National Capital Region (NCR) significantly amplifies the mall's potential impact.
Multifunctional Vision for the Mall
Aditya Dahiya, the Managing Director of the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), briefed the Chief Secretary on the mall's multifaceted role. The Unity Mall is designed to function as a permanent exhibition centre for state-specific products under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. It will also serve as a business-to-business networking hub and a tourist attraction showcasing India's diverse manufacturing capabilities.
This initiative aligns with the central government's vision of promoting indigenous industries, expanding market access, and enhancing inter-state trade through modern, high-quality infrastructure. The project is targeted for completion by July 2027.
Push for Timely Completion of Working Women Hostels
Shifting focus to social infrastructure, the Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of two working women hostels under construction in Sector 78, Faridabad, and Sector 9, Gurugram. He stressed the critical importance of completing these socially significant facilities on schedule.
Rastogi instructed the responsible departments to expedite the ongoing civil and structural works. He mandated strict compliance with all safety protocols and quality norms during the construction process to ensure the hostels are secure and well-built for their future residents.
Strategic Implications and Future Impact
The review meeting underscores the Haryana government's dual focus on driving economic development through projects like the Unity Mall while addressing essential social needs through infrastructure like working women hostels. The Karnal mall is poised to become a landmark destination, boosting local MSMEs, creating employment, and attracting business and tourism. Simultaneously, the hostels in Faridabad and Gurugram will provide safe and affordable accommodation, supporting the participation of women in the state's workforce. The Chief Secretary's direct oversight signals a strong administrative push to ensure these projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.
