Gurgaon's Rs 923-Crore Underground Trumpet Interchange on Dwarka Expressway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to revolutionize connectivity in Gurugram with a major infrastructure project. A four-lane trumpet interchange will be constructed underground on Dwarka Expressway, with an estimated cost of Rs 923 crore. This ambitious initiative aims to provide direct access to the upcoming Global City and Vision City developments, marking a significant step in the region's urban expansion.

Strategic Underground Design for Seamless Traffic

The proposed interchange will be built entirely underground, ensuring vehicles can move between the expressway and nearby areas without any traffic signals. This design is crucial for maintaining smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow on the main Dwarka Expressway corridor, reducing congestion and improving travel efficiency for commuters.

Key Location Near Pataudi Road Junction

The interchange will be strategically located near the Pataudi Road junction on Dwarka Expressway, officially designated as NH-248BB. This spot serves as a vital connection point for surrounding residential neighborhoods, industrial zones, and the new urban projects. Its placement is expected to enhance accessibility and support regional growth.

Funding and Project Timeline

The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) will fund the Rs 923-crore project, which is designed to facilitate access to Global City and Vision City. Officials have confirmed that planning is finalized, and construction is likely to commence within the next three months. The project is projected to be completed in approximately 30 months, with execution processes currently being prepared.

Infrastructure Details and Connectivity Features

The interchange will include approximately 3.2 kilometers of dedicated approach roads and ramps, connecting the underpass with internal roads of Global City and Vision City. This setup allows vehicles to enter and exit smoothly without disrupting expressway traffic. A curved loop ramp, characteristic of trumpet interchanges, will enable vehicles approaching from the Manesar side to make seamless turns, ensuring safe and continuous movement.

Enhanced Local Connectivity Between Developments

One of the key benefits of this interchange is the direct link it will create between Global City and Vision City. Vehicles will be able to travel between these two major developments without needing to access the main carriageway of Dwarka Expressway, significantly improving local connectivity and reducing travel times for residents and businesses.

Advanced Construction Techniques

The underpass will be constructed using precast reinforced cement concrete boxes, employing the box-pushing method. This advanced technique allows large structures to be inserted beneath the functioning expressway with minimal disruption to traffic, showcasing innovative engineering solutions for urban infrastructure projects.

Part of Gurgaon's Major Urban Development

This interchange is integral to Gurgaon's broader urban development plans. Global City, spanning over 1,003 acres along Dwarka Expressway, will feature residential, commercial, and institutional spaces. Across the expressway, Vision City will serve as a complementary commercial hub. Together, these projects represent a transformative phase in the region's growth, with the new interchange playing a pivotal role in their success.
