Gurgaon's Rs 5.1 Crore Model Road to Connect South City 2 with Nirvana Country
Gurgaon MCG's Rs 5.1 Crore Model Road Plan for South City 2

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has set in motion an ambitious plan to transform a key stretch in the city into a state-of-the-art model road. The project, with an estimated budget of Rs 5.1 crore, aims to reconstruct the connecting road between South City 2's A Block and the main road of Nirvana Country. This initiative is designed to significantly upgrade local infrastructure and ease traffic congestion for residents.

Project Timeline and Key Features

According to MCG officials, the tendering process for this project has already commenced. A private agency will be selected to undertake the reconstruction work, and it will be given a strict deadline of 10 months to complete the task. The agency's appointment is expected to be finalized soon, paving the way for physical work to begin.

The envisioned model road will not be a simple re-tarring exercise. It is planned to incorporate several modern amenities aimed at promoting safety and sustainability. The blueprint includes a dedicated cycle track and a proper footpath for pedestrians. Furthermore, the project will involve the installation of new street lighting, an upgraded stormwater drainage system, and modern sewer lines, addressing multiple civic issues in one comprehensive overhaul.

Part of a Larger 100-Km Model Road Network

This specific project is not an isolated effort but a crucial part of MCG's grand vision to develop 100 kilometers of city roads as model roads. The approval for the South City 2 to Nirvana Country stretch was granted during the MCG's finance and contracts committee meeting held on November 20.

In the same meeting, several other model road projects received the green light, indicating a city-wide push for better infrastructure. These include a Rs 6.1 crore project from Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) to Bani Square and a Rs 6.3 crore project from Omaxe Mall to Rosewood City.

Other Model Roads in the Pipeline

MCG has recently initiated work on two other significant model roads. The first is a 750-metre stretch in Sector 32, running from Rajiv Chowk on NH8 to Medanta, with a projected cost of Rs 6.7 crore. The second is in Sector 39, covering 1.05 km from Medanta to Bakhtawar Chowk, budgeted at nearly Rs 7.2 crore. These roads will also feature cycle tracks, footpaths, and are planned to include green spaces as part of their redesign.

Earlier, in August of this year, the civic body began developing a 1.5 km model road from Sai Chowk to Shriram Chowk in New Palam Vihar at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore.

The concerted focus on creating model roads across Gurgaon underscores the administration's commitment to enhancing urban livability. By integrating dedicated spaces for cyclists and pedestrians with robust drainage and utilities, MCG aims to set a new standard for road infrastructure in the bustling city, ultimately aiming to improve the daily commute and quality of life for thousands of residents.
