In a significant push to upgrade urban infrastructure in Ghaziabad, the foundation stone for the redevelopment of six major road stretches was laid on Tuesday. The projects, falling under the second phase of the Chief Minister's Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme, target the bustling trans-Hindon localities of Indirapuram, Vaishali, and Kaushambi.
Massive Investment for Pedestrian-Friendly Corridors
The ambitious initiative will see approximately 16 kilometres of roads transformed at a total cost exceeding Rs 307 crore. Ghaziabad Municipal Commissioner, Vikramaditya Singh Malik, outlined the comprehensive plan which focuses on creating holistic public spaces rather than just carriageways. The revamped roads will feature wide, pedestrian-friendly footpaths, dedicated jogging tracks, strategic green landscaping with aesthetic light fixtures, proper sitting arrangements, and even designated vendor zones along the footpaths.
Detailed Breakdown of the Six Stretches
The development is spread across three key areas. In Indirapuram, four stretches have been identified. The longest, a 4 km corridor from Bala Ji Mandir to NH9 via Kaveri Marg and back via Kala Patthar, carries the heftiest price tag of around Rs 102 crore. Other Indirapuram stretches include the 2 km Sushila Naiya Marg link (Rs 27 crore), the 1.8 km Kasturba Gandhi Marg link (Rs 30 crore), and a 1 km stretch near Shipra Mall (Rs 16 crore).
In Vaishali, a 4.5 km long section from Harshvardhan Marg to Dharam Marg will be developed with an allocation of Rs 70 crore. Kaushambi's upgrade focuses on a 2.5 km stretch from Dabar Chowk to Ch Charan Singh Marg, passing the old bus stand and EDM Mall, at a cost of Rs 59 crore.
Boosting Connectivity and Quality of Life
The event marking the commencement of these projects was attended by Sahibabad MLA and Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister, Sunil Sharma, among other officials. This large-scale development is poised to drastically improve the daily commute and public realm for lakhs of residents in these densely populated suburbs. By integrating green elements, pedestrian safety, and vendor management, the scheme aims to move beyond mere road widening to creating vibrant, sustainable community spaces. The project underscores the state government's focus on enhancing civic amenities and infrastructure in the National Capital Region's key satellite cities.
