Jamshedpur Auto Fares Hiked by Rs 5 Due to Rising Fuel Prices
Jamshedpur Auto Fares Up by Rs 5 After Fuel Price Hike

Jamshedpur: The recent surge in fuel prices has led autorickshaw operators in the city to increase fares by Rs 5, effective from Friday. This decision comes shortly after inter-district and long-distance bus operators announced similar fare revisions.

Auto Fare Revision Details

The Sikhshit Berojgar Tempo Chalak Sanchalak Sangh (SBTCSS), which represents auto drivers and vehicle owners, has implemented the revised fares for share auto travel across Jamshedpur. Shyam Kinkar Jha, a functionary of SBTCSS, stated on Thursday, “The increase in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices has compelled us to moderately raise fares.” He noted that the last fare adjustment occurred in 2019, and the current hike is solely attributed to rising fuel costs.

Previously, share auto fares ranged from Rs 10 to Rs 30, depending on distance. For instance, a journey of 5 to 7 kilometers cost Rs 10, while a trip covering 18 to 20 kilometers was priced at Rs 30. The new fares represent an increase of Rs 5 across all distances.

Bus Fare Increases

Earlier, the Jamshedpur Bus Owners Welfare Association (JBOWA) announced a 15% rise in bus fares, expected to take effect within a week after the onset of monsoon. JBOWA convener Upendra Singh explained, “Due to summer and ‘adhik maas’ (an extra lunar month with no auspicious ceremonies), operators considered it an off-season, so the revised fares were delayed.”

Inter-district bus fares have already increased by 15-20% since the first week of June. Operators indicated that further decisions will depend on the central government's actions regarding fuel prices in the coming days.
