There was no rush today and the problem is slowly reducing," stated an official from a city gas agency, highlighting that the system is functioning without significant delays. However, despite these assurances, persistent concerns among residents have led many to attempt securing cylinders early, driven by fears of potential shortages.

Hitesh Puri, Chairman of CRAWFED, pointed out that a lack of trust among residents has significantly contributed to the recent surge in bookings. He also identified issues with unreliable booking contacts circulating within the community, exacerbating confusion. "There is a trust deficit among residents. Some phone numbers being used for gas booking are not genuine. People are panic buying because they are unsure about the system," Puri explained. He added that clearer and more proactive communication from agencies and authorities could have helped mitigate the confusion and prevent unnecessary anxiety.

Residents have reported that existing booking restrictions are adding to their anxiety, with some experiencing discrepancies in the promised timelines. For instance, a resident from Maloya noted that he last booked a cylinder on February 24 but was informed he could only place another booking on March 27, which did not align with the standard 25-day rule. Across Chandigarh, the general sentiment remains cautious; while many acknowledge that supply pressures appear to be easing, several emphasize that the booking and delivery processes need to be streamlined to restore full confidence among consumers.

Mohali Intensifies Monitoring of LPG Distribution

In neighboring Mohali, the district administration has taken proactive steps to address growing concerns over the misuse and irregular distribution of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal announced that food and civil supplies department officials have been deployed as vigil officers to closely monitor LPG agencies across the district.

These officers will conduct regular inspections and verification drives to ensure that cylinder distribution adheres strictly to prescribed norms. The initiative aims to maintain transparency in the distribution process and prevent the diversion of cylinders meant for domestic use. Mittal directed all LPG distributors, delivery staff, and relevant stakeholders to cooperate fully with the inspection teams, warning that strict legal action under the Essential Commodities Act will be taken against anyone involved in diversion, hoarding, or misuse.
