Western Railway Cancels 102 Suburban Trains on Tuesday
Western Railway announced the cancellation of 102 suburban local train services on Tuesday, January 20. The decision comes due to operational issues at the Kandivali car shed and speed restrictions on the tracks between Kandivali and Malad.
Operational Disruptions Explained
Railway officials issued a press release on Monday detailing the disruptions. The exit at Kandivali car shed remains closed for maintenance work. This closure affects train movements on the fast corridor significantly.
Speed restrictions are also in place on both up and down lines between Kandivali and Malad. These combined factors force multiple cancellations throughout the day.
Reason Behind the Works
The maintenance at Kandivali car shed is part of the larger Borivali 6th line project. Western Railway recently commissioned an additional line between Kandivali and Borivali. The current works aim to integrate the car shed exit with this new infrastructure.
Officials confirmed the car shed exit is not yet declared fit for operations. They expect it to become operational from January 21, pending final safety clearance.
Impact on Commuters
The cancellations will likely disrupt suburban traffic on the Western line. Areas between Borivali, Andheri, and Churchgate may experience significant service reductions.
Western Railway advised commuters to check the detailed list of affected trains. This list is available in Annexure–I of the official notification. Suburban station masters along the Western line also have this information.
Passenger Advisory
Railway authorities urge passengers to plan their journeys carefully on Tuesday. They should account for possible delays and service disruptions.
Commuters are encouraged to stay updated through official channels. Alternative travel arrangements might be necessary during peak hours.
The railway administration emphasizes that these measures are temporary. They aim to ensure long-term operational efficiency and safety for all suburban services.
