A tragic incident occurred in Kumarapalayam, Namakkal district, where a power loom worker was electrocuted while operating a machine on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as M Raja, 40, who was working as a daily wage laborer at a unit owned by Shanmugam in Kannagi Nagar.
Sequence of Events
According to police reports, Raja arrived at work at 3 a.m. on Sunday. Shortly after starting his shift, he informed Shanmugam that he had been experiencing electric shocks from the machine since morning. Shanmugam contacted an electrician, but Raja continued working on the loom despite the risk.
Around 8 a.m., Raja suffered a severe electric shock to his leg and collapsed on the spot. Maragatham, a fellow worker who was nearby, immediately switched off the power supply and called for help.
Medical Response and Investigation
Raja was rushed to the Kumarapalayam Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Kumarapalayam police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the electrocution and whether safety protocols were followed at the unit.
