Surat Workers Can Now Obtain Cooking Gas Cylinders Through Simplified Employer Application Process

In a significant development for industrial workers in Surat, a new streamlined procedure has been established for obtaining cooking gas cylinders. Workers can now secure LPG cylinders by having their employer submit an application on official company letterhead along with a copy of the worker's Aadhaar card.

Addressing Critical Gas Supply Concerns for Industrial Workforce

This important announcement emerged from a crucial meeting held in Surat on Saturday, specifically convened to tackle persistent gas supply issues affecting local industries. The gathering brought together government officials, industry representatives, and business leaders to ensure reliable cooking gas availability for workers across the region.

The meeting was chaired by Gujarat Gas managing director Avantika Singh and featured participation from numerous key stakeholders. Attendees included Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SGCCI) president Nikhil Madrasi, vice-president Ashok Jirawala, industry representatives Vijay Mevawala, CA Mitish Modi, South Gujarat Textile Processors Association director Vinod Agrawal, senior Gujarat Gas officials, and district supply authorities.

New Cylinder Distribution Mechanism Announced

District supply officials revealed during the meeting that all petroleum company dealers have commenced supplying both 5-kilogram and 3-kilogram gas cylinders through this new arrangement. To access these cylinders for their workforce, industrial units must follow a straightforward procedure:

  • Submit a formal application on company letterhead
  • Include the worker's full name in the application
  • Attach a copy of the worker's Aadhaar card
  • Submit these documents to the nearest authorized gas supplier

Delivery of cylinders will be executed based on current stock availability, with replacement cylinders also being provided as needed. This systematic approach has been specifically designed to prevent worker migration by ensuring their essential cooking gas needs are met reliably.

Streamlined PNG Connection Process Implemented

In additional positive developments, the meeting also announced substantial simplifications to the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection process. The approval and connection timeline has been dramatically reduced from 45 days to just seven days, representing a significant efficiency improvement for industrial units seeking gas connections.

The SGCCI has committed to playing an active coordinating role between various industrial associations and the gas company. They will compile and forward detailed information about industrial areas where gas pipeline networks are not yet available, facilitating targeted infrastructure development.

Industry Demands for Expanded Gas Infrastructure

Industry representatives at the meeting presented specific demands for gas pipeline network expansion across several key industrial zones in Surat district. The identified areas requiring improved gas infrastructure include:

  1. Sachin industrial area
  2. Palsana industrial zone
  3. Pandesara industrial region
  4. Kim-Pipodara industrial sector
  5. Sayan industrial area
  6. Mangrol industrial zone

This comprehensive approach to addressing cooking gas accessibility follows concerns raised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries regarding difficulties workers faced in obtaining LPG cylinders. The chamber had specifically advocated for gas cylinder distribution based on Aadhaar card verification, a recommendation that has now been incorporated into the newly announced system.

The collaborative effort between government authorities, gas suppliers, and industry representatives demonstrates a proactive approach to solving practical challenges affecting Surat's industrial workforce while supporting business continuity across the region.
