Surat metro rolled onto the tracks on Sunday, marking a key milestone as the first trial run was carried out on the Diamond Corridor after years of construction and delays. Trial Run Details and Infrastructure Progress

The trial was conducted on an 8.5km stretch between Dream City and Althan Tenament, covering seven stations. Officials confirmed that the viaduct and track-laying work on this segment have been fully completed, along with the structural construction of all seven stations. Entry-exit structures and finishing works are also nearing completion, indicating that the metro is rapidly approaching readiness for public use.

With this progress, commuters can expect metro services up to Majura Gate on both corridors soon. As part of the ongoing process, trial runs of around 500 hours will be conducted, accompanied by detailed inspections to ensure safety and functionality.

Approvals and Future Steps for Passenger Services

The metro will be opened to passengers only after receiving necessary approvals from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) and the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). These regulatory checks are crucial to guarantee that all systems meet stringent safety standards before the public can access the service.

Sources indicated that officials are aiming to begin initial services between Dream City–Majura and Bhesan–Majura stretches on both corridors, which would provide a foundational network for early ridership.

Overview of the Surat Metro Project

The Surat metro project spans an impressive 40.3km across two corridors. The Diamond Corridor runs 21.6km from Dream City to Sarthana, featuring 20 stations, including six underground ones. The second corridor, known as the Textile Corridor, covers 18.7km between Bhesan and Saroli with 18 stations.

Work up to Adajan Gam station on the Textile Corridor has been completed, and trials on this stretch are expected to commence soon, further expanding the testing phase. This comprehensive network is designed to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in Surat, supporting the city's growth and urban mobility needs.
