Pune LPG Supply Adequate, Minister Orders Probe Into Black Marketing
Pune LPG Supply Probe Ordered Amid Black Marketing Claims

Pune LPG Supply Declared Sufficient Amid Black Marketing Investigation

Industries Minister Uday Samant stated on Sunday that Pune maintains an adequate supply of LPG to fulfill both domestic and commercial requirements. However, persistent reports of shortages in specific areas have prompted the government to launch a comprehensive investigation into potential black marketing activities.

Review Meeting Addresses Supply Concerns

Speaking after a detailed review meeting with industrialists, district administration officials, and police representatives, Samant revealed that authorities have been directed to examine alleged irregularities that might be creating an artificial scarcity. "Officials from the district supply office have informed me that the average daily demand for LPG cylinders in Pune ranges between 90,000 and 1 lakh, and sufficient stock is available," Samant explained. "Despite this, complaints of shortages persist, and officials have been told to probe the reasons."

Industrialists Raise Black Marketing Allegations

During the meeting, several industrialists expressed serious concerns about black marketing, alleging that LPG cylinders were being sold at exorbitant prices ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. In response, Samant emphasized immediate action. "Officials and police have been instructed to act immediately and take suo motu cognisance of such cases, even if no formal complaint is filed," he declared.

The meeting was convened amid growing anxieties over LPG availability, partly influenced by ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Samant assured stakeholders that authorities have been directed to ensure an uninterrupted supply of both domestic and commercial cylinders. He also highlighted that the Union government has established clear supply norms for cylinder allocation across various consumer categories, and current stock levels are more than sufficient to meet existing demand.

Expansion of PNG Connections and Renewable Energy Focus

Beyond addressing immediate LPG concerns, Samant outlined plans to expand piped natural gas (PNG) connections for industries. "While some industrial areas lack pipeline infrastructure, others have pipelines but have yet to take connections," he noted. To accelerate adoption, "camps will be organised in such areas to promote PNG adoption and expedite new connections. Regional officers will oversee these efforts under the supervision of the divisional commissioner."

Additionally, the minister addressed reports of panic buying and fuel shortages, revealing that petrol demand had surged by approximately 30% over the past three days due to rumors, though the situation normalized on Saturday. "Strict action will be taken against anyone spreading misinformation about shortages," Samant warned. "Pune district has around 350 fuel stations, all of which have adequate stock, so there is no cause for concern."

Looking toward sustainable energy solutions, Samant announced a focus on increasing renewable energy usage. "I will be visiting Dharashiv district and Jat taluka in Sangli, along with industrialists, over the next two weeks to explore sites for large solar power projects," he added, underscoring the government's commitment to long-term energy security and environmental sustainability.
