Noida Airport Secures Robust Power Infrastructure Ahead of Launch
In a significant move to ensure seamless operations, the power department in Noida has established a dual substation arrangement to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the upcoming Noida International Airport. This initiative aims to prevent any disruptions as commercial flight services prepare to commence.
Scaling Up Power Capacity for Future Demands
According to Vivek Kumar Patel, superintending engineer (technical) at the Noida power department PVVNL, the airport's current power supply stands at 6 MVA, delivered through substations located in sectors 18 and 32 of the Yamuna Authority area. Plans are in place to escalate this capacity significantly. The supply will first be increased to 20 MVA and eventually reach 93 MVA by 2027, utilizing two dedicated 220 kV substations. This phased enhancement is designed to align with the airport's projected growth and increasing energy needs.
The dual-line configuration is a critical feature of this setup, allowing power to be rerouted through an alternative line in the event of a failure on one line. This redundancy ensures that the airport maintains a consistent power flow, minimizing the risk of outages that could impact flight operations and passenger services.
Quick Response Team and Future Expansion Plans
To further bolster reliability, a specialized Quick Response Team (QRT) has been deployed on standby. This team is tasked with addressing any power-related emergencies swiftly, ensuring that any issues are resolved without delay to maintain operational continuity at the airport.
Looking ahead, the power department has outlined additional infrastructure developments. A 400 kV substation is planned for Sector 32 along the Yamuna Expressway, intended to meet the airport's future power demands. This substation will be constructed by Tata Power Company Limited under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, highlighting a collaborative effort to support the region's infrastructure growth.
Officials Emphasize Prioritized Monitoring and Long-Term Projections
Sanjay Kumar Jain, chief engineer of the Noida power department, emphasized that the department is closely monitoring and prioritizing the power requirements at the Jewar airport. He expressed confidence in achieving a seamless electricity supply once operations begin, underscoring the department's commitment to supporting this key aviation hub.
Power department officials have projected that the airport's overall power demand will reach approximately 95 MW by 2030. Current plans are already in place to provide a 93 MW supply in the future, demonstrating proactive measures to accommodate anticipated growth and ensure the airport's energy infrastructure remains robust and scalable.
