North Central Railway to Launch Commercial Advertisements on Train Coaches
The North Central Railway (NCR) has announced a strategic initiative to introduce commercial advertisements on train coaches within its Prayagraj Division. This move is specifically designed to enhance non-fare revenue by leveraging the extensive visibility of railway networks.
Initial Implementation on Kanpur Shatabdi Express
Railway officials confirmed that the initiative will commence with the Kanpur Shatabdi Express, for which a formal tender has already been issued. Once successfully implemented on this premium service, the advertisement system is expected to be extended to other trains operating under the Prayagraj Division.
Shashikant Tripathi, NCR's chief public relations officer, highlighted that several railway zones across India are already generating significant revenue through similar advertising models, particularly on high-visibility trains. Within NCR itself, the Jhansi division has been earning revenue by displaying advertisements on approximately 16 trains, including popular services like the Chambal Express, Bundelkhand Express, and Barauni Mail.
Safety and Operational Considerations
Officials emphasized that all advertisements will be placed in a manner that does not compromise safety standards or interfere with essential visibility markings on the coaches. The plan is anticipated to attract major brands seeking extensive public exposure, as railway networks connect multiple cities and transport thousands of passengers daily, offering a unique advertising platform.
NCR Achieves Top Punctuality Rating
In a related development, NCR secured the top position among India's 17 railway zones with an impressive 98.52% punctuality rate on March 5. The Prayagraj division played a crucial role in this achievement, registering 98.03% punctuality for mail and express trains on the same day, which marks the best performance recorded by the division so far in 2026.
Railway officials attributed this success to enhanced operational management and coordinated efforts across various departments. On that day, 254 mail and express trains were operated across the division, with 249 running on schedule, reflecting the zone's strong focus on efficient train operations and improved passenger services.
The introduction of train coach advertisements represents a forward-thinking approach to revenue generation, aligning with broader trends in the railway sector while maintaining a commitment to safety and service excellence.
