In a significant infrastructure push, Uttarakhand's Public Works Department has proposed transforming the crucial Nagla-Kichha road into a modern four-lane corridor to enhance connectivity to the upcoming Khurpiya Industrial Cluster.

The ambitious plan involves widening the existing 10.69-kilometer stretch from Nagla to Kichha, which currently functions as a double-lane road. The state government has allocated an estimated Rs 80.62 crore for this crucial infrastructure upgrade, with the proposal currently awaiting formal approval under the State Plan.
According to Assistant Engineer Vinod Sanwal of the PWD Provincial Division in Rudrapur, "The proposal to convert the Nagla-Kichha road into a four-lane corridor has been formally submitted. This strategic upgrade will significantly strengthen transport infrastructure leading up to the Khurpiya Industrial Cluster."
Connection to National Industrial Corridor
This road expansion project is intricately linked to the larger Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), a national initiative designed to boost industrial development across seven Indian states. The AKIC project aims to create integrated industrial clusters and modern transport networks spanning Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been personally monitoring the project's progress, describing the Khurpiya cluster as a "milestone in the state's industrial growth". The enhanced connectivity is expected to facilitate smoother heavy-vehicle movement, strengthen logistics networks, and support comprehensive regional development.

Former Kichha MLA Rajesh Shukla emphasized the transformative potential of improved road connectivity, stating that it would open new avenues for employment and substantially boost the local economy.
