Major Fire at Chemical Factory in Medchal, No Injuries

A significant fire erupted at the Org Chem chemical factory located in Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad late Tuesday night, causing panic in the industrial area. However, officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties occurred in the incident.

Firefighting Efforts

According to fire department officials, a distress call was received at around 11:45 pm, prompting firefighters from the Shamirpet fire station to rush to the scene. The teams fought the blaze for nearly four hours before bringing it under control, with support from the Genome Valley fire station.

Details from the Scene

Shamirpet station fire officer (SFO) Shiva Kumar reported that only a chemist and four security guards were present at the factory when the fire started. “Nobody was trapped inside, and all of them managed to exit safely,” he stated. He added that the fire originated in the factory’s storage unit and intensified rapidly due to methanol stored on the premises fueling the flames.

Preliminary suspicions point to a possible short circuit as the cause, though the exact reason is yet to be determined.

Damage Assessment

“The first floor of the building suffered approximately 30% damage in the incident. Thick smoke engulfed the upper floors, forcing firefighters to break open glass doors to gain access and prevent the flames from spreading further,” the SFO explained.

Authorities noted that the estimated property loss is still being assessed. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
