Maharashtra Government Transfers Land for Kolhapur IT Park Development
In a significant development for the regional technology ecosystem, the Maharashtra revenue department issued a government resolution on Friday, officially transferring 34.36 hectares of land in Shenda Park to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation for the establishment of an IT Park.
Land Acquisition and Transfer Details
The land, previously under the jurisdiction of the agriculture department, will be acquired by MIDC at prevailing agricultural rates. Once the payment process to the revenue department is finalized, MIDC will take possession to commence comprehensive planning and infrastructure development for the proposed technology hub.
As a crucial condition of this transfer, the state government has mandated that the agriculture department must be provided with alternative land. A previous proposal to allocate forest department land in Sangrul was rejected by agriculture officials, prompting the district collector to identify a new, suitable location for replacement.
Financial and Regulatory Requirements
The government order includes specific financial obligations, requiring MIDC to reimburse the forest department Rs 93,34,770 for plantation work conducted on the site under the social forestry programme. Additionally, since the land falls within the boundaries of the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation, MIDC must secure all necessary construction and planning permissions from KMC authorities before any development activities can begin.
Local Business Community Reaction
The announcement has generated considerable enthusiasm within Kolhapur's business community. Pratap Patil, president of the IT Association of Kolhapur, described the move as a historic achievement for the region.
"The official release of the government resolution for Kolhapur's IT Park represents a moment of great pride for all stakeholders. On behalf of the information technology sector, I extend sincere gratitude to Rajesh Kshirsagar, executive chairman of the State Planning Commission, MLA Amal Mahadik, and district collector Amol Yedge for their persistent support throughout this process," Patil stated.
However, Patil also emphasized a critical demand for the upcoming project: "We respectfully request the government to ensure preference and reservation for local IT companies during the allotment of plots. This approach will guarantee that homegrown enterprises can fully benefit from this new infrastructure development."
