Indian stock exchanges BSE and NSE will remain closed on Friday, July 17, 2026, on account of Muharram (Ashura). Trading activities will resume on the next working day, July 20. This is part of the pre-announced holiday calendar for 2026.
Trading Resumes on June 29 After Recent Holiday
After a brief break, equity markets are set to reopen on Monday, June 29, 2026. The holiday on June 26 was observed for a local festival. Investors can resume trading from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM on June 29.

According to exchange officials, the holiday calendar is published well in advance to help market participants plan their trades and settlements. “The holidays are decided by the exchanges in consultation with market participants and are based on the list of holidays declared by the government,” said a BSE spokesperson. Investors are advised to adjust their positions accordingly and ensure compliance with margin requirements before holidays.
Note on Muharram Trading
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, and Ashura is observed on the 10th day. In 2026, it falls on July 17, leading to a complete closure of all segments – equity, derivatives, and currency – at both BSE and NSE. The commodity markets, including MCX, will also remain closed. Trading will resume on July 20 with normal timings.
