Mysuru: The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has successfully acquired 838 acres for the Phase II expansion of the Kellamballi-Badanaguppe Industrial Area in Chamarajanagar district. The board had originally notified 1,189 acres for acquisition. Compensation has been distributed to the majority of landowners, while payouts to the remaining will be completed after ongoing legal disputes are resolved.
Development work underway
Officials confirmed that development work has commenced on part of the acquired land to create industrial plots. With the industrial plots in Phase I largely occupied, the government has stepped up expansion efforts to attract more investors to the region.
Background of the project
The industrial area was initiated by the then Chamarajanagar district minister, H.S. Mahadevprasad, with the aim of attracting large industries to the district. KIADB Special Land Acquisition Officer Nagahanumaiah stated, "KIADB has completed the land acquisition process of 838 acres among the 1,189 acres, and compensation was distributed to the majority of the landowners. Compensation will also be distributed to the remaining landowners once their legal disputes are cleared." He added that development work is underway to create industrial infrastructure.
Local industry body urges faster action
Jayasimha, president of the Chamarajanagar Small Scale Industrialists Association (CHASSIA), emphasized the importance of the expansion. "As the expansion of the industrial area not only helps promotion of industrial activities but also generates jobs, the government should accelerate the process," he said. He further noted that the development improves the local economy and quality of life, urging the government to take up additional industrial expansion activities in the border district.
