Jaipur Grapples with Severe LPG Supply Crisis Amid Server Failures and Surging Demand
Jaipur witnessed a crippling surge in LPG demand on Thursday, leading to widespread disruptions in refill bookings as oil marketing company servers collapsed under overwhelming traffic. Consumers across the city struggled to secure confirmation numbers for their cylinder bookings, while black market sales skyrocketed to more than double the official rate, exacerbating the ongoing crisis.
Server Failures Paralyze Booking Systems
Residents reported repeated unsuccessful attempts to book cylinders, with agencies pinpointing the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) server as the primary bottleneck. The server reportedly becomes nearly inaccessible during peak daytime hours, severely hampering operations. Agency representatives expressed helplessness, stating they are unable to assist customers due to persistent server failures.
"Customers keep calling us, but we have no answers. There is no communication because the servers are not working properly," lamented an agency official. In contrast, booking through HPCL and BPCL servers was noted to be comparatively easier, though still challenging amid the overall surge.
Black Market Flourishes as Prices Double
The supply crunch has fueled a rampant black market, with consumers revealing that cylinders are being sold at over twice the official price. "Some are managing cylinders from the black market even though they pay a heavy price," shared a frustrated customer. This illegal trade has drawn sharp criticism from authorities, with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma raising the issue on Wednesday and vowing strict action against hoarding and black marketing practices.
Induction Stove Demand Soars, Stocks Depleted
As LPG shortages persist, consumers are increasingly turning to alternatives like induction stoves, leading to a sharp spike in demand. However, retailers in Jaipur confirmed that sales have risen so dramatically that stocks are now completely exhausted. A Jaipur-based retailer disclosed, "Our stock is completely exhausted. We are waiting for new supplies, but we are not sure when we will get them." This shortage highlights the broader impact of the LPG crisis on household energy solutions.
Consumer Frustration Mounts Amid Booking Delays
One affected customer recounted, "After a few calls, I managed to book a cylinder in the morning, but I am still waiting for the confirmation. The agency person told me the reference number will come at night." Such delays have become commonplace, leaving many residents in limbo as they await essential fuel supplies. The situation underscores the urgent need for improved server infrastructure and transparent communication from oil marketing companies to alleviate public distress.
