The proposed 20-kilometer Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor (IPEC), which will connect the Super Corridor near the airport to the Pithampur Investment Region on the western outskirts of Indore, is being planned as a mixed-use urban and industrial stretch. The project is estimated to have a water demand of approximately 40 million liters per day (MLD).
Key Objectives and Connectivity
The corridor is designed to serve as a critical traffic management link ahead of Simhastha 2028, a major religious event. It will improve connectivity to key nodes such as the Indore airport, ICD Dhannad, and the proposed Tihi railway station. By linking NH-47 (Dhar Road) and NH-52 (Agra–Mumbai Road), it will provide a direct alternative route between Indore and Pithampur, easing pressure on existing city roads.
Land Use and Infrastructure
According to planning details, the corridor will feature a mix of commercial, residential, and industrial land use. Approximately 365 hectares are allocated for commercial activity, 206 hectares for mixed-use development, 63 hectares for residential purposes, and around 36 hectares for green industries. Space will also be reserved for public utilities and infrastructure. The approved scheme covers a gross area of roughly 1,316 hectares, with a total project cost estimated at around Rs 2,360 crore.
Water and Population Planning
The corridor's water demand of 40 MLD will be met through a combination of fresh and recycled water sources. The development is planned to accommodate a population of about 1.15 lakh, including affordable and rental housing options.
Project Timeline and Official Statements
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is scheduled to perform the bhoomipujan (groundbreaking ceremony) of the first phase of IPEC in the first week of May, as confirmed by officials. Himanshu Prajapati, Executive Director of Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (Indore), stated: "The corridor is being designed as a fully integrated economic zone with robust infrastructure planning, including water provisioning of around 40 MLD through a combination of fresh and recycled sources. It will significantly enhance connectivity between Indore and Pithampur while supporting future urban and industrial growth."
