The Indian passenger vehicle sector concluded a remarkable year in 2025 with a final flurry of activity in December. The month saw a mix of highly anticipated new generation models, the return of iconic nameplates, and significant updates to popular vehicles, keeping the momentum of a spectacular year alive.
New Generation Kia Seltos Leads the Pack
The most anticipated debut of December was undoubtedly the new generation Kia Seltos. Unveiled ahead of its official launch on January 2, the SUV boasts a completely redesigned exterior. It is now dimensionally larger and wider, giving it a more commanding road presence. Inside, the cabin has been revamped with a host of new features supported by advanced technology, aiming to set a new benchmark in its segment.
Luxury and Open-Top Thrills from Mini
Adding a touch of glamour to the luxury segment, Mini launched the Cooper Convertible S in India. This drop-top lifestyle car arrived with a price tag of ₹58.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It combines classic Mini styling with the unique appeal of open-air driving. Under the hood lies a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox, enabling a swift 0-100 kmph sprint in just 6.9 seconds.
Tata Expands Powertrain Options for Key SUVs
Tata Motors made a strategic move by introducing much-awaited petrol variants of its flagship SUVs. Both the Tata Harrier and the Tata Safari are now available with a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same power unit that debuted earlier in the year in the Tata Sierra. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, significantly broadening the appeal of these popular models.
MG Refreshes Its Best-Sellers
JSW MG Motor India rounded off the year's launches by unveiling the facelifted versions of the MG Hector and Hector Plus. The updates focus on exterior enhancements, including a revamped radiator grille, updated bumpers, and new alloy wheel designs. While the interior layout remains familiar, the fresh look aims to sustain customer interest. Initially, the updated models are offered with a turbo-petrol engine, with a diesel variant expected to join the lineup soon.
These December launches effectively summarized the dynamic nature of the 2025 Indian car market, characterized by increased consumer choice, technological integration, and fierce competition across all segments.
