Cognizant Launches Vizag Operations Jan 26, Plans Massive 25,000-Employee Campus
Cognizant Starts Vizag Ops Jan 26, Eyes 25,000 Jobs

Global IT giant Cognizant is set to kick off its operations in Visakhapatnam from January 26. The company will start with a temporary campus, marking a significant boost for the city's technology sector.

Initial Phase with 800 Employees

Cognizant will begin with a workforce of 800 employees. This initial group includes 300 senior officials who will lead the operations. The move is part of a broader expansion strategy in Andhra Pradesh.

Permanent Campus Plans Scaled Up

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for Cognizant's permanent campus on December 12. Originally, the company planned to accommodate around 8,000 employees at this site.

However, following a direct request from the Chief Minister, Cognizant has agreed to scale up its plans. The permanent campus will now be designed to house approximately 25,000 employees. This decision reflects strong government support for IT growth in the region.

Strong Employee Interest in Relocation

Cognizant's Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar highlighted significant internal interest. He stated that over 5,000 existing Cognizant employees have expressed willingness to relocate to Visakhapatnam. This enthusiasm underscores the city's appeal as a developing IT hub.

TCS Also Joins the Vizag IT Wave

Another major player, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is preparing to launch its operations in Visakhapatnam. TCS will begin in February from a temporary office located at Millennium Towers.

The company plans to start with 2,000 employees. TCS's permanent campus is currently under development and is expected to become operational by 2027. This parallel expansion by two IT leaders signals a robust phase of job creation and economic activity for Vizag.

A Major Boost for Andhra Pradesh's IT Landscape

The entry of Cognizant and TCS into Visakhapatnam represents a strategic shift. It positions the city as a key destination for technology services in South India. The combined initial workforce of nearly 3,000 employees from both companies will inject fresh talent and opportunities into the local economy.

Government initiatives appear to be paying off, with direct involvement from top leadership accelerating project scales. The IT sector in Andhra Pradesh is poised for substantial growth, driven by these large-scale corporate investments.
